AC Cable

I just got an old Dell desktop (1999) from my friend, but he didn't give me the power cable. I have a power cable from an old Compaq PC (1998.) If I use the same AC cable on the Dell, will there be a risk of damage? And if so, will it cause a big-ass fire?

Check current supported (one digit, in Ampere [A] engraved somewhere on the cable connector) Take the max power of your computer power supply in watt (W) and divide by AC voltage (V) in your country. If result is lesser than max current value on the cable, it's ok.

I have a laptop & use it as a desktop about 95% of the time. So to not waste my computer's battery I have decided to remove the battery out and just plug the AC cable. The only bad thing is that the back of my laptop is now exposed to dust, etc when ever it doesn't have the battery. Do you ppl think this is smart( removing the battery & plugin in the AC to extend my battery's life)

Just make sure the battery had a full charge when your removed it. Li-Ion batteries have a small self-discharge rate, but if they go completely dead, they may not come completely back to life. As far as dust goes, don't worry about it. The battery compartment is usually pretty well sealed off from the rest of the laptop. Regardless, all laptops have vents for cooling air (and dust) to enter, which is a far bigger dust load than an open socket. Note - when the laptop shuts down due to low battery, the battery isn't completely exhausted, it's just dropped down to a low voltage to trigger the shutdown.

Everwhere i look all there is 9 volt ac adaptor and my nintendo heats up to that.

The HD has no power button, so I have to disconnect the USB and power cables in order to turn it off. Is it better to just leave it on all the time? I want to use this hard drive for a long time.

External HDDs with no power button turnoff the minute you disconnect the USB from the computer so there is no problem in keeping your HDD connected to AC power when not in use.
